| A young woman named Illa Preneur makes an otherworld journey to a farm family on lonely Tabit. Their eldest son, casualty of yet another war, is doomed to a vegetative existence. His mind is in "link coma," the 23rd century equivalent of a broken record, repeating the same painful last memory over and over.
