In The Venice Apartment and Other Stories, a painter, a singer and a student read the soul levels of other people, a distant
self and other times in music, art, and arthitecture centuries old. A mother and son break with their past, held in the vial
of an ancient amulet, and broken figures, long dead, leave the memory of loss and desire in old places of residence, where
new occupants and travelers passing through learn lessons about power, possession and freedom. Love, death and art are
intimately bound up together in this collection of metaphysical love stories, that capture the elusive element in
relationships and in the creative lives of artists and truth-seekers. About the Author: Erna Cooper was born and raised in Southern California, and studied fine art and theatre at New York University. She holds a B.A. in English, from UCLA, and has produced theatre at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in Scotland. Erna is a member of the Societe des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques and the Lester McNutt Theatre Company, in Paris, France, and has spoken at the International Women's Writing Guild, in New York and at the San Francisco Writer's Conference, where she has done public readings from this short story collection. Erna Cooper holds graduate degrees in European Literature, English and Modern Languages, from Oxford University, where she was awarded 'proxime accessit' for the Rex Warner Literary Price, at Wadham College. She also taught Shakespeare and Literary Theory, for the Oxford University Access Scheme summer school. |
