Stuart Layton, a British advertising executive working in Los Angeles, arrives home to discover that his new wife, Nikki, has gone missing under strange circumstances. As he delves deeper into her disappearance, it begins to appear that she was not at all what she seemed to be.

Stuart's quest for the truth takes him through London then on to the exotic island of Mauritius, where he meets the equally mysterious and beautiful investigative reporter Paige Thompson, who appears to help Stuart on the surface, but seems to be operating under her own agenda. Stuart runs into trouble very quickly, caught between a ruthless gang of weapons smugglers and the local law enforcement. Each attempt he makes to extricate himself from this predicament only serves to spiral him even deeper into a whirlpool of deceit.
