Time Machine Summary

The Time Traveller (for so it will be convenient to speak of him) was expounding a recondite matter to us. His grey eyes shone and twinkled, and his usually pale face was flushed and animated. The fire burned brightly, and the soft radiance of the incandescent lights in the lilies of silver caught the bubbles that flashed and passed in our glasses. Our chairs, being his patents, embraced and caressed us rather than submitted to be sat upon, and there was that luxurious after-dinner atmosphere when thought roams gracefully free of the trammels of precision. And he put it to us in this way - marking the points with a lean forefinger - as we sat and lazily admired his earnestness over this new paradox (as we thought it:) and his fecundity. `You must follow me carefully. I shall have to controvert one or two ideas that are almost universally accepted. The geometry, for instance, they taught you at school is founded on a misconception.

The Time Machine -- Adobe PDF ebook. H.G. Wells’s classic work.

When the Time Traveller courageously stepped out of his machine for the first time, he found himself in the year 802,700--and everything had changed.

When Herbert George Wells published The Time Machine in 1895, it was acclaimed as a work of genius. When Wells' sent his character on a fantastic (and prophetic) voyage through time, he created a revolution in storytelling and founded the Science Fiction genre. The Time Machine is perhaps the most famous work by this legendary author and social critic.

H. G. Wells, the pioneer of science fiction, was born in England on September 21, 1866. He studied science and became a teacher until he decided to become a full time writer at the age of twenty-seven. Wells' first novel was the science fiction The Time Machine, a satirical comment on the English class system which countered the British assumption of inevitable progress. Wells became a prolific author of science fiction, including The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Dr. Moreau. His vivid visions of the future included superhighways, computers, the military use of tanks and airplanes, and the atomic bomb. The prophetic accuracy of his science fiction led to his label as The Man Who Invented Tomorrow .

Passionately concerned about social issues, Wells used science fiction to communicate his concerns and ideas. He also wrote social commentaries like The Holy Terror, a psychological study of modern dictators based on Stalin, Mussolini, and Hitler. His visions of the future included a war-torn twentieth century leading to eventual world peace in the twenty-first century.

Herbert George Wells died in London, England, on August 13, 1946

The Time Traveller (for so it will be convenient to speak of him) was expounding a recondite matter to us. His grey eyes shone and twinkled, and his usually pale face was flushed and animated. The fire burned brightly, and the soft radiance of the incandescent lights in the lilies of silver caught the bubbles that flashed and passed in our glasses. Our chairs, being his patents, embraced and caressed us rather than submitted to be sat upon, and there was that luxurious after-dinner atmosphere when thought roams gracefully free of the trammels of precision. And he put it to us in this way—marking the points with a lean forefinger—as we sat and lazily admired his earnestness over this new paradox (as we thought it:) and his fecundity.

The story that launched Wells's successful career-the classic tale of the Time Traveler and the extraordinary world he discovers in the far distant future. A haunting portrayal of Darwin's evolutionary theory carried to a terrible conclusion.

The classic science-fiction novel about a scientist's travel to the distant future, where he encounters the beautiful, peaceful Eloi. But he also learns of the future's terrible secret. This is the first novel ever to deal with time travel, newly designed and typeset for modern readers by Waking Lion Press.

A scientist invents a machine that carries him into the future. While there, he discovers a race of gentle humans. He also meets some evil creatures. Even worse, his Time Machine is trapped deep inside their secret caverns.
