Those Whom the Gods Love is a thriller with the action set in the early 1960s in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Two popular black teenagers are brutally murdered and the only suspect has an alibi. Bill Davis, back home after a harrowing military experience in Vietnam, is engaged to marry the lovely Virginia Baker Bill’s childhood friend, Wayne Shearin, is now an aide to the Director of the SBI. While searching for somebody with a military background to go to Jacksonville, he comes across Bill’s name. Bill agrees to go to work undercover as a member of the crew with the man who is the main suspect. Bill gradually comes to realize that the suspect is a pathological killer even though he has an ordinary job and those he works with would never suspect what kind of man he really is. The reader will experience the culture in a Marine town as the crew works and lives in and around Jacksonville. Events move inevitably toward a dramatic climax, after Virginia pays a surprise visit on Valentines Day, triggering a chain of events that lead to a thrilling car chase through town, and a brutal and dramatic ending in Holly Ridge, NC. |
