The year is 79 BC.  Hispania (Spain), province of the Republic of Rome, is in rebellion, led by an outlawed Roman General, Quintus Sertorius.  The Roman Senate has sent its most illustrious soldier-statesman, Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius to govern part of Hispania and capture Sertorius.  During a rebel attack on legionaries garrisoning a mining town in the Sierra Morena mountains, a young man from a well-to-do provincial family named Marco is caught up in the fighting and must choose between family obligations or joining the rebellion.  Follow Marco as he duels wits and weapons with fortune hunters and famous Romans in the legendary adventures of Marco, The Sword Fighter.
