The Swiss Family Robinson Summary:

Pastor Robinson and his family are traveling from Switzerland to New Guinea when they are shipwrecked somewhere in the far southwestern Pacific Ocean. They remain onboard until the water loosens the planks from the hull, and the vessel is torn apart. The four Robinson children help load the animals and supplies into several small tubs, and one-by-one they make their way to a nearby uninhabited island and establish an elaborate settlement. They labor together diligently to adapt to this new circumstance. They battle pirates and the environment, and also tame many of the island animals to manage the whole into a functional community that they eventually call "New Switzerland." This fast-paced adventure illustrates how design and skill make it possible to prevail over almost any obstacle. Please Note: This book has been reformatted to be easy to read in true text, not scanned images that can sometimes be difficult to decipher. The Microsoft eBook has a contents page linked to the chapter headings for easy navigation. The Adobe eBook has bookmarks at chapter headings and is printable up to two full copies per year. Both versions are text searchable.

"For many days we had been tempest-tossed... the raging storm increased in fury on the seventh day... all hope was lost."

From these dire opening lines, a delightful story of adventure begins. One family will emerge alive from this terrible storm: the Robinsons—a Swiss pastor, his wife, and four sons, plus two dogs and a shipload of livestock, hens, pigeons, and geese!

Inspired by Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, this heartwarming tale portrays a family's struggle to create a new life for themselves on a strange and fantastic tropical island. There each boy must learn to control his own nature—such as Ernest's bookishness and Fritz's hot temper—as their adventures lead to amazing discoveries, danger, and tantalizing surprises, including a puzzling message tied to an albatross's leg.

The authenticity of the boys' behavior, the ingenuity of the family, and the natural wonders of this exotic land have made The Swiss Family Robinson, first published in 1812-1813, one of the world's best-loved and most enduring stories of shipwreck and survival.

A family finds itself stranded from the civilized world and alone at an uninhibited island. It is the story of adventure and excitement that endured through time and continues to entertain the readers. The twists and turns in the story and the characters capture the fancy of the readers. An out-and-out entertainment to the very end.
