Sea and Sardinia Summary:

Written in 1921, Sea and Sardinia is in Lawrence’s words “a little travel book.” He readily admits that he is not interested in writing a Baedeker but rather in catching the spirit of the place he visited, to step “outside the circuit of civilization.” Today for the student of Lawrence it provides an accessible insight to his mode of thought and responses to his own and other cultures; to the lover of Southern Europe it stands as a record of a Sardinia long ago swept away in the tide of progress; and to any reader, it is an enjoyable narrative that contains some of the most evocative and vivid descriptions to be found in any travel book.
