During the search, Brenna and Brie stumble on the kidnapper, who throws the child into a raging river as a diversion to his getaway. Although Brenna and the little girl survive, Brie loses her life.

Filled with grief and guilt, Brenna questions her involvement with the Sacramento team and, temporarily, emotionally withdraws from her other search dog, Feather. Then the kidnapper shifts his focus to Brenna and plunges her into his "game."
