The Riddle of Ermenonville is a historical detective novel about the young Robespierre, a student of Sorbonne at that time. Maximilien Robespierre, an eminent figure of the Great French revolution, is usually represented as a gloomy, embittered, bloodthirsty tyrant - a malicious genius of the revolution. That is totally inaccurate! He was a nice, sociable, amorous man. Maximilien Robespierre arrives in a small borough of Ermenonville to spend his vacation there. However, he doesn't get a chance to have a rest. Henri, his fellow traveler, is murdered. Then Maximilien learns that there's also imminent danger to the life of the great philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The young man tries to avert his death. Falling in love with Madeleine, a young girl of noble birth, brings him a lot of emotional experience. Illustrated. 48 pages. About the Author: Elena Rudenko (born in 1981). Being keen on history of Russia and France, she took a particular interest in the Great French Revolution and especially in the personality of Maximilien Robespierre. No, she is not a communist, just interested in the person of Robespierre. Elena desired real comprehension of that man, and, seemingly, she has succeeded in it. Elena and Maximilien have a complete mutual understanding. They are together for several years. |
