The impact of poststructuralism on thinking in the social sciences and humanities over the last decade has been profound. However, there has been little exploration of the implications of applying poststructuralism to a critical analysis of social policy. Today, with the decline of the welfare state and the emergence of "neoliberalism," policy makers urgently need new tools of analysis in order to rethink the relationship between citizens and the state.
