Recent confrontational critiques of international development practice, affecting organisations as prestigious as Oxfam, Action Aid and the Red Cross, have attacked the motives of those heading the 'monolithic machine' of global development, suggesting that development intervention is in reality just too politically complex for real good to come of it.
