Rookie astronaut Mark Koskinen thought it was a lucky break when he was paired with NASA legend Joe Buerhle for his first training flight. But during the mission, something went terribly wrong. Buerhle suddenly started behaving erratically, losing control of the plane, crashing it into the shallow waters of the Texas Gulf, and finally dying on impact. Mark was the only survivor. Now in the aftermath of the crash, Mark finds himself caught up in a web of suspicion, intrigue, and deception. The NASA committee formed to discover the cause of the crash seems determined to whitewash the investigation, even thought evidence is mounting that Buerhle may have been murdered. Mark's fellow trainees are calling him a jinx. And the NASA brass are making him a scapegoat, hinting that his career -- like Joe Buerhle -- might be dead in the water. To clear his name, Mark sets out to discover the truth. One by one, his friends begin to turn against him, until his only ally is Kelly Gessner, a beautiful woman astronaut who had once been Buerhle's lover. As the clock ticks down toward a fateful mission in space, a powerful conspiracy of forces uses every means at its disposal -- including lies, treachery, and murder -- to stop the secret of Joe Buerhle's death from getting out. |
