Lipstick Warriors Summary

Randy, Janet and Lydia become close friends when they join up in World War II as A.T.S. staff car and ambulance drivers. Their various postings in England culminate in an invasion rehearsal exercise in South Wales. Randy and Janet are then posted to United Triumph H.Q. and sent overseas to Paris and Germany, while Lydia becomes an officer and is posted to Brussels. Randy is adventurous, flirtatious and somewhat undisciplined. Janet is appealing and motherly, with a sense of humour; she is a young widow, whose great desire is to have children. Lydia is attractive and gregarious. The novel follows the adventures and romances of the three young women as they drive their staff officers through England, France and Germany against the background of unfolding events in the war. Their stories are sympathetically told, with comedy and tragedy in equal measure. World War II brought the three friends together, and even though their futures lie at different corners of the world they will be friends for life. About the Author Pat Doornbosch was a staff car driver in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. She was attached to General Eisenhower's Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force in England, France and Germany. After the war, she drove a staff car for the British Control Commission in Berlin. When she was demobbed, Pat was reunited with, and married, her sweetheart who had been a Japanese prisoner of war. "Lipstick Warriors" is a historical novel based on Pat's wartime experiences.
