The Lie of the Body Summary:

This play was commissioned to raise funds for The Lupus Foundation. Lupus, a disease that destroys not only the body and the hopes of an individual but also her or his family.

Woman: My husband works 50 to 60 hours a week. Then he comes home and cooks and cleans. He does the laundry and takes care of our six children. He takes care of me. Many times he becomes so angry he yells at me. I try to understand that he has so much stress. I want to leave my house and do normal things. I want to shop for groceries. I would love to go out to dinner or a movie. Take my children for a walk on the beach.

JOE: 16,000 American develop lupus each year.

MAN TWO: 500,000 to 1.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with lupus.

ALL: 7000 die each year.
