The number of the memorial tower that is located at Okuno-inof Koya-san holy place is unclear. The reason of the unclear number is that the towers are dug out innumerably if we dig the ground. It is the largest holy place not only in Japan but also in the world. Please enjoy solving the mystery from this book. (Excerption from the book) Koya-san holy place is the sacred ground of Shingon Buddhism (Mantra Esoteric Buddhism) constructed by Kukai who is called Koubo-daishi hierarch. Kukai joined Embassies to Tang China at the year of 804 when he was 31 years old, and he went to Cyoan of Tou. Where, he was given the title of eighth supreme Ajyarihenjyokongo from Keika bonze as he had mastered legitimate esoteric Buddhism. Then, he came back in 806. He was granted Koya-san holy place (900m above sea level) from Saga emperor who was the emperor at that time, and he opened Shingon Esotericism holy land by founding Koyasan-kongoubuji temple on the basin of the summit with many disciples in 816. The hierarch attained immediate Buddhahood at the year of 835 when he was 62 years old. The construction of the Koya-san holy place lasted still at that time, and high younger brother Shinzendaitoku succeeded after that and made the archetype of Koya-san holy place which are left to the present. |
