This book deals with the topical issue of political mobilisation and legitimacy in a number of Muslim states, and explores sources of tension and turmoil in these cases. More specifically, the book examines the evolving and complex relationship between political power and Islam through a comparative study of carefully selected Muslim states. Special attention is paid to the mechanisms of state control/utilisation of Islam to maintain stability and to bolster political legitimacy.
