Grandpa and the Computer Summary

This is a true life story of an 82 year old man's trials and tribulations in learning to operate a computer. When Mrs. Hart passes away James goes into deep depression and begins to lose his will to live. In order to provide him with a diversion, one of his grandchildren asks her Dad to buy James a computer. Mr. Hart, being of a certain generation, decides that he will teach himself how to use the computer, utilizing what has served him so well all his life: Common sense. The book is an often humorous tale of the triumph of the human spirit and perseverance. The author succeeds in learning to use the internet and e-mail, tools which enable him to establish contact with the outside world, precisely what he needs to rekindle his interests. This book was written not only as personal therapy but also with the intent of providing a teaching manual for others. It offers a way for other Grandpas and Grandmas to eliminate the pain from the gain. It serves this purpose admirably, by removing the intimidating aspects of computers and showing how it can open a new world to anyone at any age.
