The Ghost of Mount Chinati Summary
| An unhappy, California teenager, Corbie Ransom, has been uprooted and transplanted in a small west Texas town where his father has been transferred. He immediately comes into conflict with a local bully over the attentions of a teenage girl. The conflict leads to the bully and his friends challenging Corbie to spend a night alone atop Chinati Peak, sometimes called "Ghost Mountain." It is so-called because of the unsolved, centuries-old, mysterious lights that appear on the mountain at night. Corbie, an accomplished mountain climber, accepts the challenge and counter-challenges his antagonists to do the same after his expected success. Thinking he will fail, they accept. What Corbie learns on the trip to Mount Chinati not only changes the course of his life, but also leads to a conflict with a band of dangerous smugglers, the leader of which is a close neighbor. |
