It's the 22nd century, and Clarke describes the construction of a space elevator - a giant structure connectiong the Earth on the equator with a satellite in geostationary orbit. It is used to lift payloads to orbit without using rockets or shuttles. The project is made possible by using a hyperfilament which is able to sustain it's own tremendous weight and make possible elevators that travel on the cable. Subplots include colonization of the solar system and extraterrestrial contact. There are historical references to ancient East Asian cultures. This is an Extra Large Print publication specifically formatted by the Virginia M. Woolf Foundation for people who have trouble reading ordinary size print. This file, when downloaded and transferred, can be used on the Kindle or any Mobi compatible device. The print in this version is equivalent to 20 point type.
