This book contains the Proceedings of the International Workshop on State-of-the-Art Hydraulic Engineering held in Bari, Italy in 2004. Its four sections cover air-water/transitional flows; stepped chute/transitional flows; environmental and coastal hydraulics with dispersion in estuaries and jets; and transitional flows. The energy loss of skimming flows is investigated systematically under a wide range of discharges, channel slopes, step heights, and dam heights. It also includes an attempt to reproduce the principal ocean circulation patterns by means of a numerical model and to validate this with field measurements, using a Vessel Mounted Acoustic Doppler Profiler (VM-ADP), among many other topics.
