Enchanta Summary

eBook Summary:
149 Pages -- Enchanta is the companion book to Pot of Gold. It is written for children eight to thirteen years of age.

In Enchanta, David (age 14) and Barbara (age 12) Morgan are flown from their New Jersey home to Enchanta by Wings, a white flying horse. In Enchanta, Barbara and David must unite three magical brothers Changer, Pretender and Inventor with their wizard father, King Wisher.

The king had lost his wishing power when an earthquake opened up the land and Beneathians, a barbaric tribe, came from inside the earth to raid Enchanta. The Beneathians captured Wisher's wife, Queen Hope and took her to their world beneath the earth. Barbara and David reunite Wisher with Changer, Pretender and Inventor, and the six conduct a daring raid into Beneatha.

The magical brothers perform many funny pranks and tricks on the Beneathians. In the end, Queen Hope is rescued, Wisher regains his powers, and Barbara and David are magically returned to their home in New Jersey.

Review:
ENCHANTA by Jay Dubya is the first in a delightfully imaginative fantasy trilogy for young adults age eight to twelve years of age.

When David and Barbara Morgan climb onto the back of a magical flying horse, their adventure begins. The curious children ask the white, winged creature if its name is Pegasus, like the brave winged stallion that helped many mythological creatures defeat their aggressors, but the horse tells them that he is called, Wings. He was sent to find help by Master Wisher, who had lost his wishing powers due to an earthquake. Wings whisk the kids to a land called Enchanta. There they are asked to help save the land from total destruction.

When the Beneathians see that Master Wisher is unable to work his powerful wishes, they come up from the center of the earth and overtake his land, and then they kidnap his wife, Queen Hope. Without his Queen, King Wisher is unable to gain the self-belief he needs in order to work his wishing abilities to their highest power.

After finding the King and Queen's three sons, Changer, Pretender, and Inventor, they all gather the courage and strength to rescue Queen Hope from the Beneathians.

Join David and Barbara on their adventure to Beneathia. Will they find Queen Hope? Do they rescue her?

In this fantastic fantasy story for children, you will meet some pretty strange animals and outlandish creatures. One of which is a curious lion, a shaggy-haired barbarian, a friendly ram, and an annoying babbling brook.

Jay Dubya is the writing name of John Wiessner, an extremely talented children's author. Mr. Dubya is a retired English teacher after teaching in public schools for thirty-four years, which is quite an accomplishment. He is married to Joanne and has three grown sons. Jay Dubya lives in Hammonton, New Jersey. He is a multi-published author in several different genres.

ENCHANTA is the first book in the young adult fantasy novel, the other two titles are: POT OF GOLD, and SPACE BUGS: EARTH INVASION.

As an author, mother of three children, and a children's book reviewer, I highly recommend the works of Jay Dubya.

A playful read: Recommended-Cindy Penn, Wordweaving.com

A flying horse named Wings offers to take fourteen-year-old David Morgan and his twelve-year-old sister Barbara on a great adventure. King Wisher needs their help to restore happiness in a land the horse calls Enchanta. Leaving New Jersey behind, the children embark on a fabulous journey of shape shifters, magic and excitement.

Wings drops them off beside a babbling brook that literally babbles, sharing useless information. Soon the children face danger from various animals before they meet Changer, a shape-shifter and the youngest son of Wisher. The three join forces to seek out Changer’s older brothers, Pretender and Inventor.

Changer explains that King Wisher lost his powers to protect his kingdom when an earthquake struck ten years before. Cruel beings called the Beneathians came from the center of their world and destroyed the above ground civilization. Beneathians also captured King Wisher’s wife, Queen Hope. Without Hope, Wisher has stopped believing in his magical ability. Now it’s up to David and Barbara to reunite the sons with King Wisher and then rescue Queen Hope from the Beneathians.

Enchanta is an amusing, eventful tale with the wisdom of traditional fables concealed in humor and foolishness. Enchanta will enchant its readers. Themes of courage, faith and confidence bring together these unlikely characters in the spirit of adventure, imparting remarkable lessons and ridiculous puns and riddles. Although the narrative style is a bit stilted, the playfulness and fun with words makes Enchanta a pleasant read. Recommended.
