Electronic Circuit Project Book for absolute beginners Girls and boys from 12 years (up to 85 years)! Easy assembly, no soldering required Illustrated throughout in colour with fun theme images, clear assembly diagrams and instructions, electronic component drawings and other relevant illustrations and information sections. This book enables absolute beginners to easily assemble and enjoy 20 exceptional electronic projects and have a great deal of engrossing fun as they learn. Could this be the impetus that sparks an exciting career in electronics? Everything is presented simply in clear, understandable language with crisp illustrations, enabling absolute beginners to easily (and inexpensively) make the assembly boards (no soldering required), order the electronic components and start learning a tremendous amount about electronics while they really enjoy themselves and all the awesome projects. The projects are alive and exciting because the authors have made their project book compelling, with a high degree of ‘Fun and Fascination’ to keep your ‘budding electronic engineer’ enthusiastic from beginning to end. The first project is the making of a very simple continuity tester, which is used in the second project to test and learn much about electronic components such as resistors, potentiometers, diodes, switches, capacitors, LEDs and transistors. The remaining 18 projects are progressively graded to step up the enjoyment, build confidence, knowledge and competence and teach an amazing amount about electronics and a host of other totally unrelated topics which seemed totally relevant at the time! In addition there are ‘Brain Boosters’ – an optional extra source of information for enquiring minds that want to know even more. The list of contents below will give you an idea of what to expect from this book. LIST OF CONTENTS: Before you begin Tricks and tips to get you going Electronic component look-up Where to buy components Polarity: cautionary note BRAIN BOOSTERS: Integrated circuits Semiconductors Flip-flops All about inductors Amplifiers? This project book is suitable for individuals, families, clubs, associations and schools, and indeed has even been revised to suit SA School Curriculum 2005 RNCS: Technology. About the Author: Dave and Matt Armstrong are a father and son team who have been striving for many years to create a really special introduction to electronic project construction for young people (and other absolute beginners). It all started when Matt was eleven years old and showed signs of being an innovative genius. Dave decided then that the best way to encourage his son’s natural curiosity and talent would be to buy him his own electronic project kit. Surprise turned to disapointment, when Dave found that none of the products readily available were child-friendly (most weren’t even adult -friendly) and Matt very quickly lost interest in electronics because of this. Rather insanely, this spurred Dave on to design and produce his own electronic project kit, taking great care to avoid all the pitfalls found in the other products. The first attempt took 18 months, and though rather crude, found an immediate following in the limited circles in which it was distributed. Over the next thirteen years this product has been adapted and improved continuously, with much of the input coming from Matt, who went on to study electronics after leaving school. With the increasing popularity of ebooks, it has been a natural next step to publish this book online. It is our sincere hope that our readers will assemble our great projects and get as much stimulation and enjoyment from this book as we got from developing it. |
