| An American novelist living in a wine village in Germany makes a deal with the government to restore a small medieval church for use as an office. The church has local historical significance because it is the only surviving structure of a village that was purged by fire after being decimated by the Black Death. The agreement requires that the restored church be open to tourists a certain number of hours a week. The first visitors on opening day are two young women biking the Mosel River. They quickly become interested in the one part of the church that is not accessible to visitors--the crypt. When he gives in to their persuasions, allowing them to venture below, the terrible secret of the church is discovered.. |
