DARKER THAN YOU, LIGHTER THAN ME Summary
| This comedy crime drama, character & dialogue driven, takes place in Long Beach, CA, probably the most ethnically & economically diverse mid-size city in the US. Crime & corruption are in the air like the smog & stinking refinery fumes which the unfortunate residents have to breathe. But there is one bright, efficient, stubborn & scrupulously honest cop. Doug, despised in the Dept., is partnered with Zak, his opposite in most ways, but also efficient & out of favor with mgmt. Set up to fail, they’re given difficult-to-impossible assignments. Working on one case, they get involved with a wealthy, dysfunctional, interracial family. Doug falls in love with the daughter, complicating matters---alcoholism, drug dealing/addiction, compulsive gambling, sex & eventual violence. Doug finally outlives his staunch purity & joins the general atmosphere. All justice is poetic. |
