Joe Rooney is sent to a parish whose pastor is accused of molesting children and nuns. His defense from the asylum is that the parish is infested with demons. In other words "the devil made him do it."

Joe Rooney and the woman he loves are locked in a struggle with cruel and unrelenting demons that are human, psychological, and supernatural. They desperately need each other in order to survive their respective ordeals, but any contact between them is forbidden. Joe Rooney is a Catholic priest.
