BOYS FROM THE WOOD Summary

BOYS FROM THE WOOD A London childhood in the 1940's by John Simons Co-writer: Joan Stanley Even though it had its share of celebrities, in the 1940's there were quite a few council flats, building sites, and bombed houses punctuating the streets of expensive houses of St. Johns Wood. This was schoolboy Tommy Harris's playground. Rationing and low wages made life hard, but his working class parents were proud, and endeavoured to bring up their family to know right from wrong. With no pocket money as such, Tommy lived on his wits, finding various ways to occupy his time with his friend Tiny. Boys From The Wood is a charming, autobiographical story set in post-war Britain. It is a humorous tale, tinged with a little sadness as Tommy remembers events from the war in his dreams. This book will delight many young readers, and give them an insight into life in 1940's London. At the same time older readers can enjoy a trip back to yesteryear.
