Becoming A Truck Driver: Your Guide Summary

Written by an over-the-road veteran of over 15 years, this is the ultimate guide for anyone considering becoming a truck driver. If you're interested in a career in trucking, this book should be your starting point.

There are so many things to know if you want to be successful on the road and they take years to learn. I'm not talking about shifting, steering, and braking.

I'm talking about things they don't teach in truck driving schools and things the companies don't talk about....at least not honestly.

There are "gray areas" and "unwritten rules" governing the trucking industry that have a major impact on your life and your career - and only time on the road reveals the realities of life as a truck driver. If you want to know what life on the road is really like and how to get started, this book will certainly tell you.

Includes:
- How much money do truck drivers make?
- What are the requirements for getting a CDL?
- Getting your CDL training
- How long does the schooling take?
- Finding a truck driving school
- What types of trucking schools are there?
- How much money does truck driving school cost?
- Are there free truck driving schools(hint - yes!)?
- Choosing the right type of trucking job
- Getting your first truck driving job
- What is the trucking lifestyle like?
- What will be expected of me?
- How will I be treated?
- What type of school should I attend?
- How often will I get home?
- What types of jobs are available?
...and a whole lot more.

This book is not full of gimmicks or get-rich-quick promises. This is my honest account of 15 great years on the road - with tons of my own stories, insights, and advice. Without a doubt, the knowledge I've gained over the years will help you decide if trucking is the right career choice for you, and how to get started if you're ready.

About the Author:

Brett Aquila has been an over the road truck driver for over 15 years.

After graduating from truck driving school outside of Atlanta, GA in August of 1993, his first job was with a dry van company out of Atlanta. Over the years he has driven almost every type of truck there is, including dump trucks, tankers, flat beds, and refrigerated. He has held jobs ranging from 8 hours a day and being home every night, to jobs that kept him on the road for weeks at a time.

He has been in all 48 continental states and throughout much of Canada, accumulating over 1.5 million miles in the process. To put that into perspective, that would be about 60 trips around the earth at the equator, or about 500 trips from New York to Los Angeles. If you've ever made even one trip across the country by road, the thought of 500 times will make your head spin!
You will find articles by Brett Aquila on TruckingTruth.com, EzineArticles.com, and numerous other sites across the web. He also has a blog on becoming a truck driver that can be found at www.brettaquila.wordpress.com.

Brett currently resides in a small town outside of Buffalo, NY.
