50 Ways to Pray: Practices from Many Traditions and Times Summary

"

A book of prayer helps and exercises designed to invite readers into new ways of being with God. Intended for all of us who thought we knew only one way to pray, the book presents a wide variety of prayer types, gleaned from centuries-old practices of Christian spiritual leaders and mystics, and updated for easy use by modern readers. Each of the 50 exercises includes step-by-step instructions; some background, introduction, and information on potential questions modern users might have; and a guide to post-exercise reflection. The book is intended for individual users but also includes a guide for use in group settings.

Teresa Blythe is a spiritual director, writer, and experienced leader of spirituality circles and small groups in the Christian tradition. Since receiving her Master of Divinity and spiritual director's training at San Francisco Theological Seminary in 2000, she has served as a spiritual director and small-group facilitator for the Youth Ministry and Spirituality project and for Youth Specialties Sabbath events. She works part-time at Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona, as a liturgist and retreat leader. She has co-authored two books on media and Spirituality: Watching What We Watch: Prime-Time Television Through the Lens of Faith (Geneva, 2001) and Meeting God in Virtual Reality: Using Spiritual Practices with Media (Abingdon Press, 2004).
