Das Phänomen des Dandytums, das um 1800 mit Lord Byron beginnt und um 1900 mit Oscar Wilde, Charles Baudelaire, Max Beerbohm und anderen einen deutlichen Höhepunkt verzeichnet, erlebt zurzeit eine erstaunliche Renaissance. Namen wie Tom Wolfe, Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre oder Christian Kracht sind in diesem Zusammenhang zu nennen. Aber was ist überhaupt ein Dandy? Der Brockhaus schreibt: "Das indische Wort dandi (Stockträger) wurde seit 1815 auf den durch Kleidung und Lebensform auffälligen Angehörigen des englischen Adels angewandt. Aus einer zunächst noch geistreichen Clique extravaganter Adeliger mittleren Alters entwickelte sich durch Zustrom von Mittelmäßigkeit das Dandytum als Inbegriff des blasierten Dünkels und des seichten Genusses." Dass das Dandytum in Wahrheit vielschichtiger ist, zeigt Thomas Kastura in seiner Anthologie.
