El libro expone las circunstancias del nacimiento de la Nueva Econom?a (NE), el estado de la Contabilidad, el efecto de los principios contables, y la influencia de la NIC 38 del IASB que no permite incluir en el Balance a los Activos Intangibles internos por considerar que no "tienen sustancia f?sica" y tampoco valor. Esa clase de Activos Intangibles, como la marca famosa, los nuevos productos de I+D, el software especial, el adiestramiento del personal, las relaciones con los clientes y proveedores..., son la base de la NE y desde 1980 han adquirido gran valor. Pero, el 2005 todas las empresas europeas que cotizan en Bolsa deben aplicar la NIC 38, lo que les obliga de media a reducir su Inmovilizado en un 9% de su valor de mercado. Ese descenso del valor contable representa un quebranto de unos 700.000 millones de euros para las empresas europeas y de 46.000 para las espa±olas, y puede tener impredecibles efectos en las Bolsas. Por otra parte, con la NIC 38 el valor en libros es de media el 30% del valor de mercado, ya que el Balance no recoge el valor de los Activos Intangibles que constituyen el 70% restante. En Espa±a ese valor no incorporado al Balance se estima en unos 362.000 millones de euros y en unos 5.100.000 a nivel europeo. El libro explica el problema y considera que la mejor salida consiste en implantar una Contabilidad por Proyectos con capacidad para anotar contablemente todos los Activos Intangibles, internos y externos. Para las empresas que deben adoptar las NICs el 31 de marzo de 2005 y necesitan una salida urgente, el libro ofrece una forma de realizar un Inventario de todos los Activos Intangibles que posee la empresa y que la Contabilidad tradicional ha desterrado del Activo.
